Jen Adams was just twelve years old when she first learned of the Patriot, who was at the time fighting in the Korean war; Jen was inspired to do good and fight for others, learning several forms of martial arts throughout high school. After college, Jen tried to join the military only to end up as a reserve in the army despite her efforts and qualifications, though performing her duties diligently. Three years into the reserves, Jen got wind of a new military project titled “Project: Patriot” and signed up for what she believed was an experimental armor test; Jen was pleasantly surprised to find Project: Patriot was something a bit more hands on.

Project: Patriot was a mission to recreate the original Patriot to the 10th degree, creating a stronger, faster, more durable hero to inspire both soldiers and civilians. Despite being one of seven women to sign up for the project Jen was one of the top 10 subjects chosen for the final stages of the project. Sadly, Jen was the only one of the 10 subjects to come out unscathed after the treatment was administered, leaving the other nine either dead, severely disfigured, or mentally unstable; Jen, being the only survivor, was trained for two years before being shipped out to Vietnam to help the boys out as Lady Liberty, though she did not have a shield due to the original alloy formula being lost in the Korean war and other alloys were not as effective.

After coming home from Vietnam, Jen fought local crime for a short time before being shipped out in 1974 to fight in the Cold War, leading a small troop of her own for a short time. During a security assignment in early 1976 protecting 60-year-old Tom Jeffries, the Patriot, as he traveled between bases to raise morale, the Russians ambushed the small convoy transporting Tom to the next base; Tom thankfully was wearing his costume, shield and all, and immediately jumped into the fray to protect the soldiers. Jen was eager to fight alongside her idol, even getting to use the iconic shield for a moment to deflect a grenade back at the enemy, but her excitement was short lived when a stray bullet struck her through the back, piercing her lung and shattering two of her ribs. Tom was able to get her into one of the transports and the convoy escaped; Jen died at the age of 33 in the arms of her hero as Tom tried to save her.

Tom spoke at Jen’s funeral, placing his helmet in the grave to be buried with her and donated his shield to be used on a statue in honor of Jen and her time as Lady Liberty to be placed in her home city of Janesville, Wisconsin where it remains to this day.
